Unraveling the Threads of Entrepreneurial Spirit and Creativity

In a heartwarming tale of creativity and entrepreneurship, 89-year-old Padma Parikh from Gujarat has transformed her lifelong love for crocheting into a thriving business, thanks to the initiative of her granddaughters, Bansari and Heer Shah.

Padma's journey began in her childhood, where her fascination for crafting beautiful items from seemingly useless materials ignited her passion for handicrafts. Despite only completing her education up to Class 7, Padma's creativity knew no bounds. She repurposed old torn sarees and dupattas to craft door mats, pillow covers, sheets, and purses.

Her granddaughters, inspired by a social media post showcasing a girl turning crocheted birds into a successful business, approached Padma during the COVID-induced lockdown in 2020. Determined to give their nani global exposure, Bansari and Heer launched 'PB Handmades' (PB for Padma Baa) on social media platforms.

Padma, with no formal training in crochet, took on the challenge and successfully crafted a crochet bird after overcoming initial difficulties. The sisters showcased the masterpiece on their Instagram page, and soon, orders began pouring in, making the crochet bird Padma's unique selling proposition (USP).

Today, at 89, Padma runs a flourishing handicraft business, offering a diverse range of handmade products such as crocheted birds, blankets, sieved bedsheets, keychains, earrings, cradle lace, purses, cup coasters, and more. Her creations have not only captured the hearts of customers in India but have also found homes in at least 10 countries, including the Netherlands, Australia, and Korea.

Padma's story is not just about entrepreneurship; it's a testament to the enduring spirit of creativity, determination, and the seamless blend of traditional craftsmanship with the opportunities presented by the digital age.
